Personal finance calculators for the United States

Calculators written for US rules. Every rate and limit is taken from an official source, such as the IRS, the Social Security Administration or federal law, and each page states the year it uses and links to the source.

Where the figures come from

Federal tax brackets, the standard deduction and the Social Security wage base change every year. The income tax and take-home pay calculators use the 2026 figures the IRS and the Social Security Administration publish, and each figure is stored with its tax year, the official page it was read from and the date it was last checked. A figure that could not be confirmed against an official source is not shown as fact.

Retirement contribution limits change every year too. The 401(k) calculator applies the 2026 limits the IRS published for elective deferrals and catch-up contributions, which depend on your age, and the overall limit on what you and your employer put in together. Your employer's match formula and the return on your investments are inputs you enter, not figures the site states.

Mortgage rules come from federal law and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: the mortgage page follows the Loan Estimate form lenders use and the Homeowners Protection Act rules for when private mortgage insurance ends. Figures that depend on your insurer or your county, such as PMI premiums, homeowners insurance and property tax, are inputs you enter, not facts the site states.

State income tax is added one state at a time, each with its own brackets and deductions; the take-home pay calculator lists only the states it can compute. California, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Illinois each have their own take-home pay page, with the figures their tax agencies publish for 2026 and the rules that differ from federal tax, such as state disability insurance, city taxes and local earned income tax.

These calculators estimate. Your pay stub, Form W-2, tax return or lender's Loan Estimate is the final word, and nothing here is tax, legal or financial advice.
